GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position reports to the Director of Safety. The position provides safety oversight and support for all MPS Egg Farms’ safety programs and initiatives. This role provides coaching, advice, technical expertise, and training on all safety related programs for all company facilities as required. Conducts root cause analysis of safety incidents and recommends preventive actions. Identifies potential safety risks by conducting periodic audits and recommends corrective measures. Assists in the development of safety programs, accident prevention procedures, technical training programs, and other safety related materials. Works closely with managers, supervisors, safety committees, and other colleagues to develop risk reduction plans and supports all other safety initiatives.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Assist with maintaining various safety related programs to include safety training, respirator program, biannual safety review program, organizing and supervising annual fire extinguisher inspections, and emergency shower/eye wash unit inspections.
  • Assists with management of daily activities to ensure interaction with facility management team, team leaders, and facility employees to increase awareness and education levels regarding safe and compliant work.
  • Maintains health and safety system in accordance with company policies and requirements to drive continuous improvement.
  • Practices safe working techniques and reinforces the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the Company.
  • Conducts regular safety audits and reports findings accordingly.
  • Acts as a first responder to safety incidents and gathers and evaluates accident data.
  • Conducts ongoing safety training events, talks and messaging to keep safety at the forefront.
  • Conducts random inspections to assess compliance and areas for improvement, taking needed action to resolve deficiencies.
  • Completes timely safety reports as required.
  • Updates SDS manuals as required and Safety Plan manuals annually.
  • Performs safety and/or fire protection inspections and monitors and evaluates work practices to ensure compliance with all OSHA, regulatory, and company safety policies and programs.
  • Assists in developing and updating safety policies in conjunction with the Safety Director.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of systems and processes to communicate health and safety issues throughout the organization.
  • Designs and implements workplace processes and procedures that lead to a safer work environment.

  • Maintain knowledge of changing laws and regulations that may impact the company, and communicate changes as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively, and work well without direct supervision.
  • Strong organizational, planning, project management, time management, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Possess strong communication, writing, interpersonal, and coaching skills
  • Good public speaking/presentation skills
  • Bilingual skills preferred
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to travel to all locations regularly
  • Strong record-keeping and organization skills with attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly establish rapport, build credibility, and create partnerships at all levels within the company

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, legislation, and best practices applicable to Safety
  • 1-2 years of similar safety experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred
  • Current OSHA 30 certification preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Able to move in different positions – crouching, kneeling, reaching, bending, and lifting 75 lbs., unassisted
  • Able to work in trenches, manholes, tunnels, and confined spaces and in work settings with moderate to loud noise levels
  • Exposed to noise, dust, dirt, fumes, foul odors, wet conditions, extreme weather, and hot and cold working conditions
  • Work regularly performed in poultry production and processing environment
  • Must be willing to travel to various locations as required
  • Must be willing to be flexible with respect to shift hours to meet position requirements
  • At times required to work additional hours, off shift, and be called in for special situations

BIOSECURITY/ANIMAL WELFARE

The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires strict daily adherence to established biosecurity processes and procedures before entering the facility. The Company provides appropriate clothing and footwear coverings. All employees are required to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). All employees are required to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

NO FOWL OWNERSHIP
